FEATURE STORIES

Earlier this month, Foss has been recognized and acknowledged by industry partners.

Matt Brown, Commercial Manager (left) and Jeff Horst, VP Sales and Marketing and (right) were honored to receive a scale model of the 24,000 TEU Ever Ace" - the largest containership in the world. The presentation was held at Evergreen’s office in Tacoma. Thank you to Captain CH Chang, Mitchell Hsu, CT Chen and the entire Evergreen Organization for your 30 years of continued support of Foss Maritime’s harbor services on the West Coast.

The next week, Capt. Eric Braden was recognized and presented with the American Waterways Operators HERO award at the AWO Pacific Region meeting. In June 2022, Capt. Eric Braden and crews on Foss Martime’s tugs Betsy L and PJ Brix were involved in a rescue mission on the Columbia River near the Bonneville Dam.

If our crews hadn’t been aware of the situation and reacted in a timely manner, this person would have gone over the spillway of the Bonneville Dam within 10 minutes from where he was rescued from his floating platform.

Kudos to our Foss crews for their situational awareness and timely repsonse!

Last week, Pacific Maritime Association awarded Foss Line Service with Zero Injury Rate and 1st place in Safety at the 75th annual PMA safety awards. Accepting the awards on behalf of Foss Maritime were Zach Vetter, Line Service Manager and Supervisor, Casey Johnson of Foss Maritime.

In 2022, Foss Line Service team ensured everyone stayed safe on every single job. “I would like to thank our Line Superintendents for making sure everyone is safe during all our line jobs. Our team does an amazing job with the longshoreman and keeping them safe. I am very proud of my team, and we are going to ensure we maintain this standard of safety. I want to acknowledge Monte Crowley since he was in this role the majority of last year,” said Vetter.

The next morning, Cassie Sanderson, our Operations Manager in SoCal, had the amazing opportunity to meet Thea Foss’ (founder of Foss Maritime) great grandson, Phillip, and her great great granddaughter, Lucy- which our Lucy Foss is named after.

Philip is in the middle (foreground) and Lucy is 2nd from the right.
On the tug R to L are Captain John Wilsey,
Captain Nick Bristol and Deckhand Cris Sogliuzzo.

Our honorary guests were given a tour of the El Segundo offshore moorings and our crews were thrilled to host them. “It was an absolute honor to meet this family,” said Sanderson.

Foss Maritime provides marine services without equal. We continue to deliver unsurpassed customer service by:

  • Maintaining a steadfast focus on our customers’ needs and preferences in everything we do

  • Continuing to extend and expand our operations globally

  • Relentlessly pursuing perfection in our health, safety, quality and compliance initiatives

  • Retaining our world class work force by fostering an environment of mutual trust and respect

Everyone at Foss played a part in all of these stories. It takes all members of our team, both shoreside and mariners to maintain a 30-year partnership with Evergreen. It takes belief in our safety culture to ensure not only our own team gets home safely, but also anyone in and around the waterways in which we operate. Upholding the legacy that Thea Foss created in 1889 takes the entire Foss team to hold each other accountable to delivering the above four tenets.

Take pride in these acknowledgements because you all played a part in making them happen.
